love and peace on earth

By Russ:

It’s all about the music… the music of LOVE and PEACE.  With world political tensions trending to an almost an out-of-control level, we raise our hands in hope.

.
Here are but a few sample songs starting from the days of “flower power”.
.

Videos:

1963 / Bob Dylan – Blowin’ In The Wind/ The question of why there is suffering in the world has long been pondered, and there still never seems to be an answer

.
1964 / Youngbloods – Get Together

.
1965 / The Byrds – Turn Turn Turn / there is a time for everything, and despite the struggles we all face, peace is bound to come

.
1965 / Bob Marley and The Wailers – One Love
.
1965 /  United Support of Artists (USA) for Africa – We Are The World / written by Michael Jackson and Lionel Richie – proceeds of record sales were donated to the “United Support of Artists for Africa” (USA for Africa). The non-profit foundation would then feed and relieve starving people in Africa, specifically Ethiopia
.
1967 / The Beatles – All You Need Is Love
.
1969 / John Lennon – Give Peace A Chance

.

1973 / George Harrison – Give Me Love (Give Me Peace On Earth)

.
1975 / John Lennon – Imagine / lyrics encourage the listener to imagine a world at peace without the barriers of borders or the divisions of religion and nationality and to consider the possibility that the whole of humanity would live unattached to material possessions
.
1967 / Buffalo Springfield – For What It’s Worth / often considered an anti-war song, Stephen Stills was inspired to write the song because of the Sunset Strip curfew riots in November 1966

.
1971 / Marvin Gaye – What’s Going On / the songs is told from the point of view of a Vietnam veteran returning to his home country to witness hatred, suffering, and injustice

.

Conclusion

Music about love and peace can be a powerful force in the world we live in, but in spite of all its good intentions, unfortunately it seems some people are ignoring the message.

I wrote a song that includes this message:

(Chorus)
we’re all in this, we’re in it together, a world of shrinking size
You see it happening before your eyes The power of money leads to compromise,

Don’t do it for the money, let LOVE be your guide
Because I’ll take the love… that money can’t buy

It is very hard for me accept that war is still going on all over the world… pathetic.

–oo–

    1. Part of the Human Condition, I guess.. all about one’s self above all others, a fundamental flaw in our makeup… The elephant in the room = Uncontrolled, exponential population growth, leading to an unsustainable future.

  1. Musicians and persons in the creative arts get it but sadly not politicians and persons driven by greed. That being said I remain an apocaloptimist. One who believes everything is going to shit but believes it will all turn out okay.
